Bank’s technician bolts with employer’s N3m laptops

A technician working for a bank, Olusesan Orebajo, who allegedly stole eight laptops valued at N3 million belonging to his employer, was on Wednesday charged before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Orebajo, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing.

He, however, denied the charge.

But the prosecutor, Insp. Ben Ekundayo insisted that the accused committed the offence between January and July at
an old generation bank at Marina on Lagos Island.

He said the accused, who was an employee of the bank, stole eight HP laptops.

“The accused had at different times stolen the laptops after official working hours.

“ When he was on duty, he turned the CCTV camera to a different direction and use the office access smart card to open
the door to the main office and other departments.

“Olusesan was eventually caught by one of the security guards,” he told the court.

The offence contravened Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Newsmen report that the section stipulates a seven-year jail term for offenders.

In his ruling, Magistrate Ade Adefulire granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

In addition, the sureties should own landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.

The case has been adjourned until Oct. 10 for mention.
