Catherine Tyldesley ‘doesn’t recognise the person she was at size 22’

Catherine Tyldesley EXCLUSIVE: Star admits she ‘doesn’t recognise the person she was before she dropped seven dress sizes, but STILL worries about her wibbly-wobbly bits’

She famously dropped from a size 22 to a size 8-10 after adopting a healthier lifestyle, but Catherine Tyldesley admits she doesn’t always feel body confident.

The former Coronation Street star, 35, reveals she sometimes worries about her ‘wibbly-wobbly’ bits and compares herself to other women on social media.

But she told MailOnline that since welcoming her son Alfie, four, with husband Tom Pitfield, she has realised there are more important things in life to worry about.

Talking about body confidence, she said: ‘I have days all the time where I’m feeling a bit wibbly wobbly… but I don’t let it spoil my fun.

‘Having kids you don’t think about it as much, because you’ve not got the chance. Alfie doesn’t care what’s hanging out or if you’ve got a six-pack.

‘It’s been a very positive impact on my life, having Alfie. Because, before that it was like: “Right, I’ve got to train five times a week”.’

‘Sometimes I feel a bit wobbly on holiday and I’m like, “Oh, have I over indulged a bit last night?” But I don’t let it spoil my fun.’

It’s fair to say that Catherine looks incredible in a bikini but even she says she can’t help but compare herself to other women on social media.

She admitted: ‘It is easy to look at social media and go: “Oh my god everyone looks perfect, I don’t look like that”. But I guarantee if you get yourself down your local leisure centre, it’s not going to look like a pool of Instagram models.

She said: 'Everyone’s got a bit of cellulite and a bit of wibbly-wobbly, and it’s a good thing for us to remember'

‘There are all shapes and sizes. Everybody’s just having a bit of fun, learning how to swim and getting healthy.’

‘Everyone’s got a bit of cellulite and a bit of wibbly-wobbly, and it’s a good thing for us to remember.

‘I think people are starting to do a 360 on Instagram now, doing the Instagram vs reality sort of thing. People like Amy Schumer I just adore because she keeps it real.’

Talking about her beloved son, she said: ‘Having a child, you don’t think about it as much, because you haven’t got the chance.

‘So, if I’m feeling a bit uncomfortable I’ll still get in the pool, I’ll just drop my towel at the last minute.’

Catherine, best known for playing Eva Price on Corrie, left the soap a year ago and she’s now taking part in a swimming campaign which is very dear to her heart.

She said: ‘I’m doing this because my dad lost a childhood friend who drowned, which gave my dad a fear of the water for a long time.

‘So my parents made sure my sister and I were confident in the water and I got Alfie in the pool at five weeks old, just to build his confidence.  He loves it.’

Catherine admits she doesn’t recognise the person she used to be before she lost weight.

She said: ‘As soon as I lost the weight I felt so much better physically and mentally. And, I still train hard and I eat well.

Speaking about weight loss, she said: 'For the main reason being nothing to do with weight loss, really. It just helps me mentally and I feel better for it'

‘It’s a way of life for me now. And then with Alfie coming along, it goes from wanting to look good to wanting to be on this earth for as long as possible, and making sure you’re eating the right nutrients and being as active as possible.

‘And, I’m kind of at that point where I’m just like, “Do you know what? I eat well, I exercise as much as I can – time permitting – and this is as good as it’s gonna get [laughs] so you’ve kind of just gotta roll with it”.’

‘I don’t recognise who I was before, and those close to me say: “I don’t remember that person”.’

Catherine is working  On the Beach as the face of their All-swimclusive campaign, highlighting the importance of getting in the water with your children.
